yes, as promised, more information on the pos/neg polaroid. wanted to mention the polaroid p/n film clearing kit. this bucket contains a rack that is built to hold 12 polaroid negatives while submerged in the sodium sulfite solution. the rack is adjustable for TYPE 55 or TYPE 665 or TYPE 85 for that matter! it's really quite a smart item.

WHAT'S THE BEST WAY TO HANDLE POLA NEGATIVES IF SHOOTING A LOT AND UNABLE TO WASH IMMEDIATELY?

a must is to have a water tight container preferably with a concise fit. the chances for scratching and marring are greatly increased if the container is too large and the negatives move around. and remember to stack the negatives with the emulsion facing the same direction.

secondly, it is suggested by POLAROID to immediately put the processed polaroid negatives into the sodium sulfite solution. PLEASE GO TO THIS POLAROID LINK FOR COMPLETE INSTRUCTIONS.

thirdly, it is important that the solution not get too warm. if you have shot all day, and are unable to deal with the negatives until the next, stick the entire container in the fridge overnight (ahem, not the freezer!). the warmer the water, the more the emulsion will swell. the more the emulsion swells, the more susceptible the negative is to scratching and marring. i've seen entire emulsions slip right off the base.

and if in a pinch, a small drop of dishwashing liquid can be used in lieu of photo flo... although photo flo is preferable.

QUICK SUMMARY: the best way to handle a polaroid negative is to clear it in the sodium sulfite solution immediately after processing- then wash and dry right away. if unable, please read instructions above.

the quest for a watertight carrying case for wet polaroid negatives has been narrowed. recently MICHEL LEROY was preparing for a trip to irelend to test out his holgaroid. 'how shall i deal with the wet pola's ?' he asked of the lab. i suggested a watertight container i'd seen about. MICHEL is so resourceful, he took the advice and improved upon it. the PELICAN 1020 MICRO CASE SERIES is perfect and with some slight adjustments one can use it for various negative sizes. THANKS MICHEL!

ps one day soon (maybe tomorrow, but then again, maybe not) i'll list some tips for dealing with wet polaroids.

until then, later.
